The Mardin Biennial was first held in 2010 with the aim of transforming Mardin into one of the centers of contemporary art and bringing new approaches and gains to the region through the language of art.

Over its 14-year history, it has created a meeting place for artists, art lovers, and art professionals through contemporary art.

The biennial aims to contribute to the visibility of the region's artistic heritage and production, as well as to present artists' messages about life. It takes place both in Mardin's historic venues, which embody its unique architecture and culture, and in places where daily life unfolds.

Embracing a structure that aims to spread art throughout the country by bringing new dimensions to the conventional definition of ‘center’, the biennial is organized by the Mardin Cinema Association with the support of the private sector.

The Mardin Biennial, which is also a member of the International Biennials Association (IBA), held its 1st and 2nd editions in 2010 and 2012 with the support of the GAP Administration, the Mardin Governor's Office, the Prime Ministry Promotion Fund, and contributions from the private sector.

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th Mardin Biennials were organized by the Mardin Cinema Association with the support of the private sector and art institutions.
The 6th Mardin Biennial will meet with its audience between May 10 and June 10, 2024.
