ABOUT

  /  ABOUT.

The Mardin Biennial was first held in 2010 with the aim of transforming Mardin into one of the centres of contemporary art and bringing new approaches and gains to the region through the language of art.

Over its 14-year history, it has created a meeting place for artists, art lovers and art professionals through contemporary art.

The biennial, which aims to contribute to the visibility of the region's artistic heritage and production as well as presenting artists' messages about life, takes place both in Mardin's historic venues, which embody its unique architecture and culture, and in places where everyday life unfolds.

Embracing a structure that aims to spread art throughout the country by bringing new dimensions to the conventional definition of “centre”, the biennial is organised by the Mardin Cinema Association with the support of the private sector.

The Mardin Biennial, which is also a member of the International Biennials Association (IBA), held its 1st and 2nd editions in 2010 and 2012 with the support of the GAP Administration, the Mardin Governorate, the Prime Ministry Promotion Fund, and contributions from the private sector.

The 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Mardin Biennials were organised by the Mardin Cinema Association with the support of the private sector and art institutions.
The 7th Mardin Biennial will meet its audience between May 2026.
