As part of the opening programme of the 7th Mardin Biennial, Hilal Can’s analog visual performance Cyclop Visuals will meet the audience accompanied by live music from Can Ömer Uygan. The analog visual project Cyclop Visuals takes its name from the one-eyed creature of Greek mythology. Emphasising improvisation, process, and the present moment, the project brings together musicians and sound artists from different disciplines to generate live visual compositions. Using an overhead projector as an analog communication tool, the performance translates sound into colours and forms through the use of various materials. The analog nature of the process allows the material itself to become part of the unfolding moment, almost as a living organism within the performance.
Hilal Can’s new artworks for the 7th Mardin Biennial are on view at Ates Beyler Hammam in Kiziltepe. She works across painting, ceramics, collage, installation, and analog photography. Since 2020, she has focused on experimental music and sound performance, developing her analog visual practice through Cyclop Visuals.
Can Ömer Uygan is a trumpeter, composer, and producer who brings together Anatolian melodies with improvisation, jazz, and rock aesthetics. As a founding member of KAM and Gevende, he develops a ceremonial and atmospheric musical language, while his multidisciplinary projects create space for collective encounters and collaborative production.
