The Concept and Artists of the 4th Mardin Biennial Have Been Announced.

BEYOND WORDS

With the aim of transforming Mardin into a center for modern art, the 1st Mardin Biennial was held between June 4 and July 5, 2010. The Biennial took place in venues that blend with Mardin's unique historical architecture and the daily life of its people. Rich in historical, cultural, and geographical diversity, the city of Mardin provided contemporary artists with an unprecedented and intensely diverse experiential space. Art events integrated with Mardin's unique architecture, which has a rich historical and spatial past, will be an important factor in securing a permanent place on the world's cultural and artistic map. Mardin has witnessed new exchanges with the 1st Biennial and will continue to do so. A multi-purpose cultural gathering was held, facilitating the exchange of ideas between the international art community and local and international artists.

The Mardin Biennial aims to revitalize the geography of Mardin through art with artists, academics, students, and different cultural communities, to create new environments for sharing, to bring new dimensions to the definition of the conventional idea of ‘center’ in art, and to establish Mardin in a central position with a series of prestigious exhibitions.

The first Mardin Biennial took place in June 2010, and the second was organized between September 21 and October 21, 2012, again with the cooperation of the GAP Administration, the Mardin Governor's Office, the Prime Ministry Promotion Fund, and contributions from the private sector. The third edition was organized by the Mardin Cinema Association with the support of the private sector between May 15 and June 15, 2015. The 4th Mardin Biennial will take place between May 4 and June 4, 2018.
