“Those Who Remember Their Births” is a series in which the artist brings together stones and branches collected from different geographies with fabric and embroidery. For the first time, this series will be realized collectively with participants on the occasion of the 7th Mardin Biennial GökZEMIN. The works, shaped with stones gathered from the Mardin region, may be exhibited in the bathhouse throughout the biennial, depending on participants’ preferences.
“We will work with stones that carry across different times and places, languages, cultural gestures, and narratives. During the workshop, we will share stories from our past and childhood, along with symbols and collective memories. Using fabric pieces inherited from family or found materials, we will cover the stones we gather from Mardin. To shape the stories and forms we share, we will create new forms and motifs using simple drawing, patching, and stitching techniques.”
Participants are encouraged to bring a medium-sized stone of their choice and pieces of fabric.
