"Every language contains silence as well as words; while we say what we want to say, there is always something we do not say. Language is a tool for organising and communicating our thoughts. Every language is equipped with different labels and categories, but at the same time these elements are what limit language.

Some emotions, thoughts and concepts cannot be fully translated and are trapped within the boundaries of the language. At the same time, they cannot be translated into another language because they contain culturally specific meaning. How can these untranslatable concepts be defined in a border region like Mardin where many cultures are intertwined? Could it be that the sounds of different languages that you can hear on the streets of Mardin have been silenced because of this untranslatability?

In this workshop, we will explore how silent boundaries are affected by untranslatable concepts and how they are expressed. We will discuss the existing limits of language and how we make them visible and construct them through different art forms with different rules."
