A few words to drones, 2022. Digital print, variable dimensions.

Into the Wind, 2022. Audio recording of performance, 21 minutes.

Into the Wind is a layered audio recording composed of field recordings from a device held between two bodies, found radio/television narratives of resistance movements, notes from a digital theremin tracing drone footage of situations when the wrong person was killed, a whispered response in the form of a fairy tale composed by the artist, and wind recordings from multiple locations. The work actively imagines a kinship through listening/eavesdropping a way of being together, remembering together, feeling together that is unavailable to other formats. A few words to drones is a sentence addressed to the imagined and real drones that surveil. This sentence installed in the public space, is meant to function as a waring, an observation, and a fact. Printed on found material that provides shade and protection against the elements and which already existed in the context of Mardin, the work presents two sides: serving the function of providing shade for those looking up and speaking to those looking down.
