Sowing Somankidi Coura, a Generative Archive is a long-term research endeavour by Raphaël Grisey and Bouba Touré around the permacultures and archives of Somankidi Coura — a self-organised cooperative founded in Mali in 1977 by a group of former African migrant workers and activists living in France in the aftermath of the Sahel drought of 1973. Through a practice of filmmaking and collective care, Sowing Somankidi Coura engages in the articulation of narratives of empowerment and peasant alliances. Deploying diverse modes of image circulation, the work is aimed at resisting forces of erosion, determination, national migration management policies, and the patenting proclivities of neo)colonial agro-industries.
