Safety Net (Safety Net for Women) was created over a three year period of the Kurdish artist's stay in Diyarbakir political prison where Irwen collected hair from her female friends and braided them into ropes. The ropes were then woven into a net that was used for casting a safety girdle secured with feminist crafting techniques, gynosociality, ecosophy and resilience. Shot was similarly crafted from the hair of imprisoned women during the hunger strike that started in Diyarbakir Prison and spread to prisons all across Turkey. Both these works transform parts of the body through collective effort into a symbolic shield against oppression.
